Variable Sampling of the Empirical Mode Decomposition of Two-Dimensional Signals

چکیده
Previous work on Empirical Mode Decomposition in two dimensions typically generates a residue with many extrema points. In this paper we propose an improved method to decompose an image into a number of Intrinsic Mode Functions and a residue image with a minimum number of extrema points. We further propose a method for the variable sampling of the two-dimensional Empirical Mode Decomposition. Since traditional frequency concept is not applicable in this work we introduce the concept of empiquency, short for Empirical Mode Frequency, to describe the signal oscillations. The very special properties of the Intrinsic Mode Functions are used for variable sampling in order to reduce the number of parameters to represent the image. This is done blockwise using the occurrence of extrema points of the Intrinsic Mode Function to steer the sampling rate of the block. A method of using overlapping 7x7 blocks is introduced to overcome blocking artifacts and to further reduce the number of parameters required to represent the image. The results presented here shows that an image can be successfully decomposed into a number of Intrinsic Mode Functions and a residue image with a minimum number of extrema points. The results also show that subsampling offers a way to keep the total numbers of samples generated by Empirical Mode Decomposition approximately equal to the number of pixels of the original image.

Blind Voice Separation Based on Empirical Mode Decomposition and Grey Wolf Optimizer Algorithm
Blind voice separation refers to retrieve a set of independent sources combined by an unknown destructive system. The proposed separation procedure is based on processing of the observed sources without having any information about the combinational model or statistics of the source signals. Also, the number of combined sources is usually predefined and it is difficult to estimate based on the ...
متن کاملCombination of Empirical Mode Decomposition Components of HRV Signals for Discriminating Emotional States
Introduction Automatic human emotion recognition is one of the most interesting topics in the field of affective computing. However, development of a reliable approach with a reasonable recognition rate is a challenging task. The main objective of the present study was to propose a robust method for discrimination of emotional responses thorough examination of heart rate variability (HRV). In t...
متن کاملA Time-Frequency approach for EEG signal segmentation
The record of human brain neural activities, namely electroencephalogram (EEG), is generally known as a non-stationary and nonlinear signal. In many applications, it is useful to divide the EEGs into segments within which the signals can be considered stationary. Combination of empirical mode decomposition (EMD) and Hilbert transform, called Hilbert-Huang transform (HHT), is a new and powerful ...
متن کاملShort Term Load Forecasting Using Empirical Mode Decomposition, Wavelet Transform and Support Vector Regression
The Short-term forecasting of electric load plays an important role in designing and operation of power systems. Due to the nature of the short-term electric load time series (nonlinear, non-constant, and non-seasonal), accurate prediction of the load is very challenging. In this article, a method for short-term daily and hourly load forecasting is proposed. In this method, in the first step, t...
متن کاملThe Transient Dynamics of a Beam Mounted on Spring Supports and Equipped with the Nonlinear Energy Sink
The transient dynamics of a beam mounted on springer-damper support and equipped with a nonlinear energy sink (NES) is investigated under the effects of shock loads. The equations of motion are derived using the Hamilton’s principle leading to four hybrid ordinary and partial differential equations and descritized using the Galerkin method. An adaptive Newmark method is employed for accurate an...
